Put on your yarmulka, it’s the 4th day of Hanukkah! That’s right, I’ve devised a crazy pairing for today involving Hanukkah, Adam Sandler, and alcoholic root beer! What could go wrong?! Let’s find out.
December 9th Eight Crazy Nights
Not Your Father’s Root Beer
Eight Crazy Nights is a slight departure from the Christmas movies I purported this to be, but it is about another very important holiday to a lot of people around the world. Adam Sandler’s goal with releasing this movie was to have a movie about Hanukkah that everyone enjoyed and was funny just like there are Christmas movies that are the same. He definitely achieved that. Even if you are not a Sandler fan, take heart in the fact that this movie has a really sweet ending, despite the Sanderian physical comedy throughout. Eight Crazy Nights is about a man named Davy who is a delinquent and a drunk, and how he is redeemed as a person. I won’t spoil too much of the story because you really just need to watch. Just keep in mind that this is a Sandler comedy and you’ll probably groan a few times, but personally, I enjoy it.
Now, I know that in Judaism that alcohol consumption is technically against the rules, so I decided to go a different route. I have chosen Not Your Father’s Root Beer. Of course this is still alcoholic, and if you follow the non-alcoholic policy, DO NOT DRINK THIS. Seriously. This root beer is fermented in the same way as beer, and so it has an ABV of 5.8%. As you’re drinking it, if you have ever had root beer, you would know there was something up with this concoction, and you probably wouldn’t be surprised to know it has acohol in it. But let’s talk about the taste. It tastes just like your average root beer if you put some rum or tequila in it. Sorta. It’s delicious, but at the same time more of an experience than a usual drink. Unless it is, in which case no judgement.
